Istilah IT yang mengelirukan

Istilah IT terdapat dalam jumlah ribuan dan ia terbahagi menurut genre IT tertentu. Ada di antara istilah-istilah ini mempunyai akronim yang sama tetapi membawa makna yang berlainan. Malah ada istilah IT yang disalahertikan untuk menjadi istilah tertentu tetapi sebenarnya ia membawa maksud berlainan.Acronym atau akronim adalah kependekan yang menjadi dan menjadi perkataan yang boleh disebut. Yang menjadi kekeliruan apabila terjadinya akronim dalam akronim seperti SAX yang menjadi singkatan kepada Simple API for XML.

ASP Active Server Page atau penyedia perkhidmatan atau Application Service Provider (ASP)? Kedua-duanya sering digunakan dalam industri pembangunan aplikasi dan web.

ATM Automatic teller machine atau asynchronous transfer mode? Pekerja IT yang bekerja di bank sering menggunakan kedua-duanya jenis ATM.

bandwidth Adakah bandwidth bermaksud “kapasiti atau kelajuan secara am”? Atau ia membawa makna yang lebih teknikal seperti selebar mana jalur siaran atau aliran data? Kedua-duanya betul. Saluran atau channel membawa enam maksud sebenarnya tetapi itu tidak mengelirukan?

kilobit Adakah kilobit bersamaan dengan 1,000 bits atau 1,024 bits? Betul jika ia 1,000 bits tetapi standard meletakkan titik perpuluhan kepada unit 1,024 atau binari.

.NET .NET adalah istilah yang digunakan oleh Microsoft untuk penggunaan XML bagi mengistilahkan perkongsian data menerusi Internet supaya aplikasi boleh digunakan secara jarak jauh. Namun begitu ia sering berubah kerana idea sering muncul dan spesifikasinya sering berubah.

server Adakah server atau pelayan sebuah program atau ia sebuah komputer yang berdedikasi untuk melakukan tugas tertentu sahaja. Biasanya ia membawa dua maksud tadi tetapi adakalanya adalah penting untuk tahu apa yang anda instal pada komputer anda.

Windows Istilah “Windows” telah digunakan dengan kerap dan ia sering disalah ertikan sejak terdapat banyak versi Windows (95, 98, 2000, XP,) yang menawarkan ciri-ciri dan masalah yang berbeza.

Istilah IT lain yang sering mengelirukan adalah seperti architecture, backup, bind atau binding, dependency, DNS vs. DSN (istilah yang serupa), groupware, intelligence, interface, intranet, knowledge, metadata, middleware, mirror in data storage, MPOE, prototype, repeater, robustness, snapshot in data storage, subnet mask, dan third generation (3G).

Namun begitu istilah yang diMelayukan lebih subjektif kepada kandungan teks dan ayat berbanding dengan terjemahan terus perkataan itu. Malah banyak istilah IT dalam bahasa Melayu direka berdasarkan pengalaman dan persamaan bunyi daripada istilah bahasa Inggeris atau terdapat penambahan kepada teks asal seperti mouse yang diistilahkan sebagai tetikus dan
